30 k later

Yesterday was a fantastic day. Sun was beaming, about minus 5 degrees C when Sara and I and several
thousand other women stood at the starting line to ski the 30 k race.
Since I really don't know how to cross country ski and don't have any technique this race was to tell cancer to go to a very dark and lonely place cuz noone wants it! You won't kill me, not for now anyway!

I was a bit emotional when the race started.....
4 months ago I barely could get out of bed from surgery, I didn't have a voice until November/ December and 4 weeks ago I did the radiodine treatment.
I didn't do the race to prove anything timewise but I wanted to prove to myself that I can start to take charge of myself despite having gone through this crap. But also I wanted to do something fun and enjoy that I actually was there! So thanks Sara H for doing this race with me!

Look at the clear blue sky!?
The two people in red helped us with warming up to good music.

We sure did enjoy the race. Energy pit stop.

We finished the 30 k in 3.41! Yeah for being awesome!

I got some nasty blisters on my feet/ heels. They started showing already at 5 k or so, ugghhh.

At about 10 k I had figured out a more energy efficient way to ski classic style (only style permitted). So the first 10 k probably took most of my strength and energy. So the next 15 k actually felt easier than the first 10 which is insane.
But the last 5 were tough. The worst wasn't the lack of energy but the blisters on both heels. So each and every move forward hurt really bad for the last 5-6 k. I even had blisters on my right hand!?

No matter what, the terrain was beautiful and it was a bit more up and down then I expected. And I am so surprised, I only fell once due to someone else falling at the end of a hill going down.
Some of the slopes were pretty step and I am so proud of myself that I didn't fall or took my skis of and walked down the slopes.

After the race was finished we were so hungry....quick shower and then headed to the pizza place. We had kebab plate for dinner, went home and relaxed and fell asleep around 9 pm.

I have to say, these types of events are fantastic. So well organized, nice and lovely people almost everywhere. And what a fun way to hang out, excercise and feel good about yourself.

Time to go to bed, tomorrow I will start working full-time. 👍 Over and out. Sweet dreams!
